Charles ‘Chuck’ Everett Holt, 68, of Rathdrum and Sandpoint, passed away in Boise on June 18, 2013.
Graveside services are being coordinated through Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint, and will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Pinecrest Cemetery in Sandpoint.
Son to Kenneth and Lucille Holt, Chuck was born in Salem, Ore., on Dec. 27, 1944. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1963, and earned a degree in education from the University of Idaho in 1969. He married his wife of 44 years, Donna, in Parma in 1969. They moved to Rathdrum in 1970.
Chuck served his country as a Staff Sergeant, 116th Engineering Division, in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976.
Chuck taught Social Studies and History at Lakeland Junior High School in Rathdrum for 32 years. He coached the school track team, and was president of the Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball organizations in Post Falls and Rathdrum. Chuck was honored by the National Little League Association for his work in supporting youth sports. The baseball diamond in Roth Park in Rathdrum is named in his honor. Chuck loved people and children, and he touched many lives throughout his teaching career.
Chuck served on the Rathdrum City Council as the Parks and Recreation Director for nine years, including one year as Acting Mayor. He was instrumental in putting in sports fields, sidewalks, bridges, gazebos and electricity to Rathdrum City Parks.
Chuck retired from teaching in 2002, and he and Donna moved to Boise in 2007. He continued his community involvement by serving on the board of his neighborhood Homeowner’s Association for several years.
Chuck enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting all throughout his life. He was an accomplished outdoorsman, as well as an avid sports fan — especially Seattle Mariners baseball and Gonzaga University Basketball. Chuck loved people and children, and enjoyed his three grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his daughter, Melissa; his son, Brian; his mother, Lucille; his brothers, Gene, Raymond and Jim; three grandchildren; five nephews and three nieces.
