They're at it again.
The generous, fun-loving women of 3Cs are poised to give away $100,000 to local charitable groups. Exclusive of this latest distribution, the organization has donated $1,519,000 to Kootenai County charities in its 51-year history.
Over the past year, 28 charitable organizations have submitted requests for financial assistance to 3Cs. Each of the 28 established 501c3 charities has been previously interviewed by a representative from the group and, on Friday, the appropriations committee met to decide the distribution of its 2013 funds.
Sally Cannon, committee chairperson, said there are three fundamental criteria upon which the final decisions are based. "Our priorities are cancer charities, women and children, and elder care. When we look at the requests, we want them to meet those criteria and to provide worthwhile services. Everything we do is for charity."
3Cs, which started out as a bowling league, puts on two major fundraisers a year: a fashion show and a fall festival. These days, 3Cs runs 11 activity groups ranging from a book club (largest) to a musical group to the ever-popular bowling. Not to be overlooked here are the Bunco and Mahjong groups.
The award decisions of the appropriations committee will be announced at an appreciation brunch to be held Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hagadone Event Center. The cost is $27 per person. Composer and pianist Brian Crain will be performing for guests. For additional information call Bobbi Freeman at 667-1479 or Judy Gardner at 664-4604.
