Prairie splits at Best of Northwest tourney

Jeremy McKinney went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs as the Prairie Cardinals beat the Tacoma Krushers 4-2 in the Best of the Northwest tournament Saturday at Post Falls High.

Riley Denney went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Cardinals, who lost 7-3 to Stampede Baseball later in the day. In that game, James Prockish went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Prairie, 1-3 in the tourney.

For Stampede, Cam Callen went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs, and Hayes Gorecki was 3 for 4 and scored twice.

"I was very proud of how our kids played today," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "We played extremely tough baseball against two very talented teams. Logan Bruner pitched extremely well and Treavor Hammell caught a great game against Stampede Baseball. We grew a lot as a team over the weekend and looking forward to continue to improve."

COEUR d'ALENE - Brendan Delgado struck out seven in a complete game in the opener for Coeur d'Alene at Coeur d'Alene High.

In the second game, Dain Bashaw had two hits for the Lumberjacks, Matt Averett and Reegan Jacobsen each had run-scoring singles, and Bashaw and Keeton Howard combined for six strikeouts.

The Lumberjacks are scheduled to play Mt. Spokane on Monday at 5 p.m. at Coeur d'Alene High.

Lakers 1-2

Chewelah 0-13

CHEWELAH, Wash. - Nathan Phillips pitched a two-hitter and Mikey Kelley scored the lone run as Coeur d'Alene won the opener.

The Lakers are scheduled to play Lewis and Clark today at noon at Lake City High.
