Lessor wins Can/Am Shoot-out 125

It was a fast night and a profitable one for Alex Lessor of Kalispell.
The 32-year-old super late model driver posted the top time during time trials — 13.088 seconds — and then capped his Saturday evening off by taking home a $3,000 check along with a trophy for winning the main event in the Canadian/American Shoot-out 125 at Montana Raceway Park.
“It’s the best car I’ve had so far this year,” Lessor said of his super late model, which is sponsored by the Rainbow Bar and the Army and Navy stores of Evergreen and Whitefish.
“We only made two adjustments to the car the whole race.”
Lessor started in the sixth position for the main. He gradually moved up and finally took the lead on lap 68.
“It took 25 laps to get around Clint Habart,” he said of the pole sitter. “His car was getting loose on him on the long runs and he eventually left the door open for me and I got under him.”
Lessor said there was a pivotal caution with 20 laps remaining, but for the most part, it was a pretty clean race.
“Trevor Emond was right there,” Lessor said of the runner-up.
“He made me work for it. The last five laps, he definitely made me think about him. I knew he was there.”
Cory Wolfe finished third, Habart came in forth and Ryan Wells placed fifth.
Earlier, Habart won the trophy dash, Wolfe took first place in the B Heat and Wells won the A Heat.
It was the second super late model race for Lessor this season at MRP. He finished second in the G.E.T. Rich at the Montana Gold 212.
He’s 2-0 in super stocks races thus far and will be on the track Saturday night for the 12th annual Legend Thunder. He was a winner in 2005.
Other main event winners last Saturday were Race Sasser in the bandoleros, Troy Pilgram in the bombers and Alex Mehall in the Hornets.
