Pauline P. Whitley Adams, age 85, of Coeur d’Alene, died Jan. 17, 2013, at home. She was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Hawthorne, Fla., to Almon and Ethel (Brown) Poole. She grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa, and was married to Joe Whitley in 1948 in New York City. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1950 where they owned and operated Leader Printing Co. They had one daughter, Diane Whitley. Joe preceded her in death in 1987 and she married Jack Adams in 1998. Jack died in 2011.
Pauline was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was active in the North Idaho Museum, Coeur d’Alene Community Theater, Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater, Trinity Group Homes, Lady Lions, GRQ Investment Club, and 48 years with Soroptimist International.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Whitley (Ric) of Prosser, Wash.; grandson, Joe Whitley of Bellingham, Wash.; stepsons, John Adams (Joanna) and Wally Adams (Pam) of Coeur d’Alene; stepdaughter, Janis Meckel (Jim) of Coeur d’Alene; brothers, Perry Poole and Page Poole (Pat) of Florida and Phil Poole (Wilma) of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Pierce Poole; and a sister, Pat Cauthen.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church with Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, in care of the arrangements. A reception will follow at the church. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to First Presbyterian Church or the North Idaho Museum.
