The World War II planes slated to arrive at the Coeur d’Alene Airport this morning from Seattle have been delayed due to cloudy weather.

Tom Lewis of the Coeur d’Alene Airport Association told The Press there’s a still a chance the B-24 Liberator, the B-17 Flying Fortress and P-51 Mustang could leave today before 3 p.m. if the skies clear.

He said the crews will also be on standby tomorrow and Wednesday.

The planes were slated to be available at the local airport for viewing and rides as part of The Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour today from noon to 5 p.m., tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Lewis said tomorrow’s other activities at the airport, including speakers, entertainment and concessions, are still expected to take place from noon to about 6 p.m.

Lewis encouraged those who plan to take a half-hour ride on one of the planes for $425 to call  (978) 562-9182 for questions.

The Press will post an update if the status of the planes’ arrival changes.

“They’d like to get out (of Seattle) this afternoon, but it depends on Mother Nature,” Lewis said.
