OMAK - An Oroville woman died and several members of an Ephrata family were injured in a wreck north of Omak Sunday afternoon.

Karen E. Mayer, 67, of Ephrata, was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier crossed the center line heading south on state Route 97, 11 miles north of Okanogan. The Cavalier then struck the rear of Mayer's 2005 Ford F-150, heading in the opposite direction, according to the State Patrol. Mayer was listed in serious condition in the Spokane hospital as of Monday.

Laura E. Mayer, the driver of the Ford, was uninjured in the collision.

The driver of the Cavalier was identified as Mab Silva, 62, who reportedly died at the scene.

Two other passengers of the Mayer family in the Ford, Angela S. Mayer, 41, and a 4-year-old boy were transported by ambulance to Mid-Valley Hospital for undisclosed injuries, according to the State Patrol.

Robert P. Mayer, 67, was also injured when he attempted to avoid the collision, driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup pulling a horse trailer. Mayer attempted to swerve around the collision, but was struck by the Cavalier, causing the truck to drive off the embankment, coming to rest in the ditch. Robert Mayer was also transported to Mid-Valley Hospital for treatment.

All persons involved were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Laura Mayer is the owner of ARTGARDEN Pottery in downtown Moses Lake.

In a post on her business's Facebook page, Laura wrote her family was heading out for a week's vacation. Laura wrote Karen Mayer, her mother, suffered serious injuries including a broken neck, which will require surgery.

The store will be open normal hours this week.
