Lonnie Ray Boolen, age 66, lived in Coeur d’Alene. Lonnie was born Feb. 25, 1947, in Hopkinsville, Ky., to Frances and John Boolen. He died June 23, 2013, at Kootenai Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Lonnie was an Army then Navy brat, and lived all over the country. Lonnie joined the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Mar Vista High School in Chula Vista, Calif.
After the Air Force, Lonnie worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Imperial Beach, Calif., Coeur d’Alene and the Hayden Post Office for the last 28 years of his career.
Lonnie loved his old cars, and he was easily recognizable in his 1959 Willys Jeep pick-up or one of his old Cadillacs.
Lonnie is survived by his mother, Frances Boolen of Spokane; his wife of 36 years Toni Spatola also know as Rosalie True, their daughter Sarina R. Spatola and grandson Hayden Ellison, of Coeur d’Alene; his daughter Trisha (Boolen) Gochenour and her mother Joan Gates, son-in-law Bruce Gochenour, grandsons Will and Nicholas of Richmond, Va., brother John Boolen, of Dallas, sister Linda Sundance of Austin, Texas. Also his sister-in-law Kathleen True and niece Kali True of Coeur d’Alene, brother-in-law Richard True, of Tacoma, Wash., sister-in law Janet Strickler and her husband Terry Strickler, of Henderson, Nev., brother-in-law Ken Garrison and nephew Luke Garrison, and great nephews Justin and Jackson Garrison, of Coeur d’Alene. He also is survived by his other children of his heart: Greg McDonald, of Post Falls, Carra Humphreys, of Liberty Lake, Wash., and Darrick Hayman, of Granite Falls, Wash.
