POST FALLS - A touch of witchcraft is coming to the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center stage.

The nonprofit center in Post Falls starting Thursday will present "The Crucible" - a dramatization of the Salem witch trials that occurred in the Province of Massachusetts Bay in 1692 and 1693. There will be eight showings.

"This is a classic tale of suspicion, small towns and early American life," said Liisa Spink, JACC executive director.

Showings at 7:30 p.m. will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week and next. It will also be shown on Sunday and March 17 at 2 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for students.

The play - the third production of the JACC's Theater Troop - is directed by Jared Helm, the theater department director for Coeur d'Alene High, with music composition by Zach Baker.

"The Crucible" was written in 1953 by the American playwright Arthur Miller and was initially called "The Chronicles of Sarah Good." Miller wrote the play as an allegory of McCarthyism when the U.S. government blacklisted accused communists. It won the 1953 "Best Play" Tony Award.

* Also at the JACC, The Piatigorsky Foundation from New York will present a classical concert on March 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.

The artists include pianist Doris Stevenson, who has soloed with the Boston Pops and played at Carnegie Hall, and violinist Paul Rosenthal, former faculty member at the University of Alaska.

Spink said the concert is intended to be appealing to diverse audiences. Last year the foundation presented its first tour in Idaho.
