Chiefs' 5-game win streak snapped

SPOKANE - Connor Sanvido scored a short-handed goal midway through the third period to snap a 2-all tie and the Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Spokane Chiefs 4-2 in Western Hockey League play Wednesday night in front of 4,114 at the Spokane Arena.

Spokane (39-25-2, 80 points) remains one point behind Tri-City for fourth place in the Western Conference and had a five-game win streak snapped.

Mike Aviani scored his 29th goal of the year to give Spokane a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Carter Proft scored on an assist from Tyler King to take a 2-0 lead before Seattle scored a power-play goal to make it 2-1 Spokane after two.

Seattle tied the game on a goal by Shea Theodore 6:30 into the third period and added a goal on an empty netter with 18 seconds remaining following Sanvido's game-winner.

Spokane was outshot 17-7 in the third period and lost for only the fifth time in 35 games when leading after two periods.

Spokane hosts Everett on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
