State B Basketball: Malta mauls Bigfork in semifinal play

BUTTE — Bigfork never recovered from a slow start, falling to Malta 47-35 in semifinal play Friday at the Class B boys state basketball tournament at the Butte Civic Center.

Neither team had much offense in the early going with Malta on top 7-3 and 16-9 after the first two quarter stops.

Malta (23-3) added to its advantage by outscoring Bigfork 14-9 in the third period.

Bigfork (19-6) was led offensively by Austin Jordt with 11 points. Tyler Kirby was next with nine.

Kendall Denham and Zach Handley both tallied 11 points for Malta.

Malta moves on to the championship game tonight at 6:30 versus Wolf Point.

Bigfork has a loser-out game today at 9 a.m. with Columbus at the Butte Civic Center. Choteau and Florence-Carlton play in the other loser-out contest at 9 a.m. at Butte High School. The loser-out winners move on to the consolation final at 3:30 p.m. at the Butte Civic Center.
