State B Basketball: Florence stops Bigfork, again

BUTTE — Florence-Carlton captured third place at the Class B state boys basketball tournament Saturday afternoon with a 61-49 victory over Western division rival Bigfork at the Butte Civic Center.
This marked the fourth meeting between Florence-Carlton (25-2) and Bigfork (20-7) this season. Florence-Carlton won for the third straight time.
The last matchup was in the Western B divisional title game in Kalispell on Feb. 23, a 48-38 victory for Florence-Carlton.
Bigfork trailed Saturday’s contest 15-11 and 31-21 after the first two periods. The second half was played on near-even terms.
Bigfork was led by Austin Jordt’s 13 points. Christian Evans tossed in 11.
Ryne Baerlocher topped Florence-Carlton, and all scorers, with 21 points. Aaron Ward added 17 and Rhett Baerlocher 12.
Bigfork advanced to the third-place game with a 65-44 loser-out victory over Columbus, while Florence-Carlton edged Choteau 57-52.
In the state championship game, Kendall Denham scored 22 points as Malta defeated Wolf Point 66-62 in triple overtime.
In the girls state championship game, Fairfield downed Townsend 45-32.
