Cards swept in home opener

COEUR d'ALENE - Sophomore catcher Shelby Carter hit a grand slam in a seven-run second inning in the first game, but the North Idaho College Cardinals were unable to score after that inning, falling to 13th-ranked College of Southern Idaho 18-7 and 5-0 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at Memorial Field.
Kylene Hatton had an RBI single in the first game and two hits in the second game for NIC (6-17, 3-13 SWAC) in its home opener.
Kylee Hogue had seven hits on the day for CSI (23-5, 17-1), including a three-run home run in the first game.
The teams will conclude the series with another doubleheader today at Memorial Field starting at noon.
