Good to see city and veterans finally sign agreement to bring memorial to Riverfront Park

I’m pleased to see that the city council and veterans foundation have come to an agreement on the veterans memorial. Montana per capita is one of the largest contributors to our armed forces, and Libby has sent its fair share to serve. I am a grandson of two veterans and a son of another. My sister and I are currently serving. Together as a family we have been to war in Europe, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. Our story is not unique from others in Libby.

There are numerous silent veterans still serving the community like those of the veterans foundation or the men and women of the VFW and American Legion. These people have contributed to our country and the community for as long as I can remember.

Veterans give our country a blank check to use their lives as the government sees fit. I thank the community for the support to the project.

This memorial should also be about the family members of veterans. Family members are our countries forgotten heroes that give their son or daughter, father or mother, wife or husband to our country, sometimes getting nothing back. They give more to the defense of our country then should be asked, and I thank my family.

Lastly, this memorial should be a point of reflection and honor for Libby.

The community can reflect on the blood and sacrifice needed for freedom and feel honored by all the people that have served.
