MATTAWA - A western Washington man escaped with his life but was injured when the truck he was driving rolled near the Hanford western gate at mid-morning on March 8.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the traffic mishap occurred at the intersection of Highways 24 and 243, or 14 miles south of Mattawa. The WSP attributed it to "inattention."

The 2013 White International truck with box van, driven by Steve C. Vasquez, 25, of Federal Way, went out of control as it traveled southward on 243.

The truck veered to the right shoulder, the WSP said. Vasquez then overcorrected, and the truck went leftward across the road. It rolled and finished on its wheels.

The truck was totaled. It was impounded by David Towing of Schawana.

Vasquez, who was wearing his seatbelt, was transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.

Charges are pending, the WSP said.
