At the wood shop ...

POST FALLS - They're not the Amish, but they're making a good-faith effort to raise money by building furniture.
The nonprofit Post Falls Lions Club has started making outdoor wood furniture to raise funds for its community programs ranging from eye care for those in need to student scholarships.
"This is another way to raise money to help the community," said Ken Cook, Lions member. "We don't get as much money as we used to from the Haunted House."
Competition has hurt the Haunted House, the club's main fundraiser, so the Lions have started new ventures, including an outdoor summer market and most recently building furniture.
Meanwhile, the club has found a new site for its outdoor market - the Post Falls City Hall plaza. The market was formerly held at the arboretum along Interstate 90 next to the former chamber of commerce building. But the event was poorly attended due to perhaps the day of the week or location, Lions members say.
This summer's market will be held on Thursdays from 4-7:30 p.m. from June through October.
Club members are making wood furniture in the United Drywall building near the intersection of Third and Spokane in Post Falls. The products are on display at their shop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays. They will also be sold at the market.
"We're looking for orders," Cook said.
The furniture includes picnic tables, flower box holders, barbecue carts, tea tables, single and double adirondack chairs, kids rocking chairs and kids picnic tables. Prices range from $50 for the tea table to $300 for the double adirondack chair.
The items can be purchased unstained, or stained for a slightly higher price. Most of the items are made out of cedar.
For more information on the furniture or being a vendor at the market, call Cook at 964-0181 or Brian "Kiwi" Kirk at 262-6837.
