LAS VEGAS - Idaho's Addie Schivo hit two free throws with 3.5 seconds left as Idaho held off Utah State 84-82 in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament Friday afternoon at Orleans Arena.
Devyn Christensen, the former Vallivue High star who scored a game-high 37 points, turned the ball over as time expired on the Aggies' final possession.
"I knew it was going to be a close one and I possibly could be in that situation," Schivo said. "It was amazing."
Idaho (16-15) will play top-seeded Seattle U (20-9) today at noon on ESPNU. The winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament, where Idaho hasn't been since 1985.
Stacey Barr poured in a career-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting and 3 of 6 from long range. She also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior Alyssa Charlston and senior Jessica Graham each added 12 points and six rebounds, sophomore Krissy Karr scored 12 as well and freshman Ali Forde had 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Idaho seized the momentum with a 22-5 run that lasted four-and-a-half minutes and left the Vandals ahead 68-59.
"No, we earned it, I don't think we stole it," Idaho coach Jon Newlee said. "We played extremely well today and that run proved how well we played. It was a game of runs and our run came at the end."
Christensen, who hit nine 3-pointers and shot 14 of 24 from the field, scored 18 of her 37 points in the final four minutes of the game as Utah State (18-13) came all the way back to tie the game at 82-82.
"We had no answer for Christensen, but she was making unbelievable shots," Newlee said.
Northern Colorado 70, Eastern Washington 64: At Missoula, Mont., the Eagles lost in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament for the third time in the last four seasons.
Northern Colorado advances to the championship game to face top-seeded Montana today.
Eastern, with a 19-12 record for the 2012-13 season and a top-100 RPI rating, is still hopeful for a postseason invitation. Brackets for the national postseason tournaments are announced Monday.
Carrie Ojeda had 20 points and 14 rebounds for EWU. D'Shara Strange scored 27 for the Bears (20-11).
