Space restrictions restricted us from reporting all of the March 1 opener report we had available. Today we continue with the report.

Quality Lakes

The quality lakes of Lenice, Nunnally, and Dusty Lakes fished mostly well on the opener with several anglers having double digit trout catches.

Lenice and Nunnally Lakes fished better than Dusty Lake on the opener and had better weather conditions too. Water temperatures in Dusty Lake tend to stay colder longer making trout a little less active on the opener. Trout size from all three lakes was about the same ranging from 12 to 20 inches in length, with most fish caught being equal to or greater then14 inches.

Production Lakes

Upper Caliche, Martha, Quincy, and Burke Lakes all fished excellent on the opener with anglers catching near limits.

Most of the trout caught averaged about 12 inches in length. Carryover trout checked by Fish and Wildlife creel checkers ranged in size from 15 to 24 inches.

These four lakes should fish well through most of the spring with anglers catching one to three trout per outing.

The Fish and Wildlife will plant around 1,000 catchable rainbow trout of about 12inches into both Martha and Upper Caliche Lakes in April to help extend fishing opportunity. Quincy and Burke Lakes should fish pretty well through May.

Upper Caliche had 254 trout in creels averaging 3.9 trout per angler. The size averaged 12 inches with a maximum size of 18 inches.

Martha's average was also 3.9 trout per angler with 124 fish checked. The average was 12 inches and the largest was 24 inches.

Burke Lake's average was 4.2 trout per angler and there were 101 fish checked. The average was 11.5 inches and the largest was 15 inches.

Quincy Lake produced 4.1 fish per angles with 106 fish checked. The average was 13 inches and the largest was 19 inches.

Volunteers needed

Save Saturday March 30 for a work party to service the nest tubes and wood duck boxes in the Frenchman Wildlife Area. Meet in parking lot number 3 at 9:30 a.m.

If you have a light boat we can use to reach the tubes it would be useful. Wire cutters and pliers will help with the effort.

If we finish up there early enough and after lunch furnished by Moses Lake chapter we'll go over the Winchester Reserve and service the tubes located there.
