NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal men golfers win

HUNTLEY, Mont. - The North Idaho College men's golf team had four of the top five finishers, led by Austin Westphal's second-place effort of a 148 as the Cardinals won the Montana State-Billings Invitational on Friday at Pryor Creek's Elmer Link Course.

Spencer Skipper and Calvin Baty (who was playing unattached) tied for third with a 150 for NIC, and Taylor Reed finished fifth with a 151.

Westphal lost in a playoff for men's medalist honors to Gage Huft of MSU-Billings.

In the women's tourney, NIC's Arlee Coleman shot a 171 to finish tied for 12th as the Cardinals finished seventh.

COEUR d'ALENE - Kelsey LaVaute hit two solo home runs in the first game and Shanika Sawyer hit a pair of two-run homers in the second as NIC swept in Scenic West Athletic Conference play at Memorial Field.

Emily Perlich struck out nine in a complete game two-hitter for NIC in the opener.

Kylene Hatton hit a two-run triple in the third inning of the second game for NIC (8-19, 5-15 SWAC) vs. Colorado Northwestern (0-18, 0-18).
