Rumor mill is churning

This was Rumor Week. Several readers emailed that Harbor Freight Tools and Cracker Barrel Restaurant were both coming to town. So far the news isn't substantial.

People hear the possibility of Harbor Freight when they're at the store in Spokane. The most likely Coeur d'Alene location would be between Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy and Dollar Tree in Mountain View Mini-Mall behind Texas Roadhouse Restaurant off Highway 95 at Neider Avenue.

The "For Lease" sign says spaces of 15,000 and 5,000 feet are available.

The Harbor Freight website says that's about the size store they pursue. The 36-year-old company has about 460 stores.

According to earlier rumors, the possible site for Cracker Barrel would be near the intersection of Ramsey Road and Appleway - but we've heard this one for years. People hear the Cracker Barrel rumor when they visit the eatery/store in Missoula.

If anyone hears the "real" news on either of these, let us know.

Brilliant Gold & Silver opens

Buying and selling gold and silver coins, jewelry, bullion and more is offered at Brilliant Gold & Silver. Owner Josh Young opened the new store in Suite 108 of Harbor Plaza at 610 W. Hubbard St. (on Northwest Boulevard across from the entry to North Idaho College).

Young's family has been in the business for 37 years as his grandfather started it in Boise.

"I buy and sell anything gold and silver - scrap jewelry, coins, bars, placer gold, nuggets, silverware," Young said. "I deal with U.S., Canadian and Australian mints."

Open hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Phone 664-6662. The website will be www.brilliiantgoldsilver.com.

Chiropractic Clinic moves to Hayden

Serving the area for more than 15 years, Chiropractic Pain Relief Clinic has moved from Coeur d'Alene to 8109 N. Wayne Drive in Hayden.

Graduates of the University of Western States, brothers Randall Priebe and Jeff Priebe, have been here for 15 and four years respectively. They focus on acute pain management, sports injuries and auto accidents.

Open hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 7:30 to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Phone 667-7463.

The Water Hazard at Avondale renovated

Final work is almost done at the renovated Water Hazard Restaurant at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake.

Open to the public, the restaurant offers lunch and dinner daily with prime rib on Fridays. It also has special events and live jazz nights. Phone 772-4273. Check www.avondalegolfclub.com.

Now for this week's Tidbits

- Evidently plans for a Shopko store coming to St. Maries have fallen through.

- Watch for details on the new downtown Cd'A Subway next week.

- A reader says that people saying something is "for free" really bugs her. It's just "free."

- Whine of the Week: The lack of sidewalks on the north side of Best Avenue between Fourth and Seventh streets. Kids walking to Borah School have to go this way and are forced into the busy street with winter snow. This needs to be fixed before someone is hurt.

- A sign on the lawn at a drug rehab center says "Keep off the grass."
