Boise State and La Salle will face off Wednesday for the right to visit Kansas State in the NCAA West Region.

The fourth-seeded Wildcats (27-7) won't have far to travel, either. Friday's game is at The Sprint Center in Kansas City. That's where the Wildcats lost to Kansas in the Big 12 tournament title game on Saturday.

Boise State (21-10) and La Salle (21-9) will play at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio, on Wednesday. The winner will assume the No. 13 seed in the West Region.

The Broncos, coached by former Gonzaga assistant Leon Rice, have never won in five trips to the NCAA tournament, most recently in 2008, when they lost to Louisville 79-61.

This is the first trip to the NCAA tournament since 1992 for La Salle, a Catholic university in Philadelphia.

The Broncos were selected as an at-large team for the first time in school history. Boise State qualified by winning the Big Sky Conference Tournament in 1976, 1988, 1993 and 1994, and the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in 2008.

Montana to play Syracuse: No. 13-seed Montana (25-6) will take on the No. 4-seed Syracuse Orangemen (26-9) in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday in San Jose, Calif. Tipoff is around 7 p.m. PDT on truTV.

This will be the Grizzlies second trip in a row to the NCAAs. Last season Montana was also a 13th seed, and lost 73-49 to No. 4-seed Wisconsin in Albuquerque, N.M. In 2010 the Griz played New Mexico in second-round NCAA game in San Jose, losing 62-57.

"We're looking forward to going back to San Jose, and we've got good memories from there from a few years ago," seventh-year Montana coach Wayne Tinkle said. "The other thing is that we will be down there and Stanford (Tinkle's daughter Joslyn is a senior starter on the Stanford women's basketball team) plays their first two rounds at home, so it will be neat to be able to share that again with her."

This will be Montana's 10th NCAA berth, and third under Tinkle.

The Orange will be making their 30th NCAA tournament appearance under head coach Jim Boeheim. Syracuse lost to Louisville in the Big East Championship game Saturday night.

"It's going to be a challenge," Tinkle said. "They are really long and athletic. They play zone, and we've struggled at times against a zone. But, we're going to be confident. We've got guys who can shoot and can make plays. We are riding a great wave of momentum. I know our guys will be a lot more focused and dialed in and ready to go this time around because of the experiences we've had the last couple of years."

Washington makes NIT, travels to BYU: Washington will play in the NIT for the second straight season and open the tournament on the road at BYU.

Brackets for the NIT were released on Sunday night. The Huskies will be a No. 6 seed in the bracket where Southern Mississippi is the top seed. The Huskies and third-seeded BYU will play on Tuesday night in Provo, Utah.

Washington ended the regular season 18-15 after falling to Oregon in the Pac-12 tournament quarterfinals. A year ago, the Huskies were a No. 1 seed in the NIT after becoming the first regular-season champion of a power conference to miss the NCAAs. Washington reached the semifinals of the NIT before losing to Minnesota.

Washington and BYU have not played since Dec. 7, 1998, when the Huskies won 83-68 in Provo.
