THOMPSON FALLS – The Bluehawks golf team took to the golf course last week, swinging into some of the first practices of the season.
Head coach Gary Thompson has started the golf program back in 1977 and has been head coach and assistant coach numerous times.
Coach Thompson stated the Bluehawks are sizing up well, with 12 boys and two girls coming out for the team.
With Thompson being the only coach, cuts will be made to help narrow the boys down to a smaller number.
“We have three people back from last year and we qualified for state for the first time in four years,” said Coach Thompson.
Sophomore Dalton Hooten and seniors Tyler Bates and Ross Dalby are the returning golfers for the Bluehawks.
Along with the seasoned golfers, new talent has also joined the team.
“We have some pretty good young players,” said Coach Thompson. “I’m very optimistic.”
The golf team is focusing on fundamentals and determining who the top five players will be for the first tournament in Loyola o April 4 and April 5.
No changes are expected for this year’s golf season.
“It would be nice to end up in the top three,” said Coach Thompson.
