Volunteers sought for senior friendship corps

Volunteers are being sought for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Friendship Corps through the Area Agency on Aging of North Idaho.

There are currently 15 volunteers visiting 21 clients. Ten clients in cities throughout Kootenai County are on a waiting list for a volunteer.

A training for volunteers will be held starting on April 17 and will run four straight Wednesdays.

Volunteers will receive 12 hours of training on emergency preparedness, senior fraud, nutrition and other areas.

Visitation to the seniors will be twice a month and be developed as a social time incorporating elements of the training.

Volunteers ages 55 and older are being sought.

AARP offers free tax assistance and preparation

Volunteers continue to provide free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program.

* Silver Lake Mall, walk-ins: Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday until 7. 446-6997. Season ends April 15.

Appointment sites will close April 12. They include:
