COEUR d'ALENE - Panhandle Kiwanis Club on Wednesday committed to donating $35,000 over three years toward building the central feature of the McEuen Park splash pad.
The feature, a boat structure, will be christened the "SS Kiwanis" for a 15-year period, with an option to renew.
"We like investing in the community," said Kent Setty, Kiwanis secretary. "We think (this project) makes the community a better place."
The club, which has more than 30 members, has committed the money over three years divided into equal payments. Setty said the first check will go out next fall.
Panhandle Kiwanis has a long relationship with the city's parks and recreation departments, Setty said.
The club has been involved in many park projects including Fort Sherman, Shadduck Lane, Cherry Hill and Bluegrass Outback and Honeysuckle Beach parks.
Kiwanis International is comprised of more than 500,000 volunteers in 93 countries worldwide and is dedicated to improving the lives of children.
