A 20-year-old Kalispell man is in jail and facing charges after a teenager was brutally attacked Tuesday evening.

According to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry, Daniel Rasmussen showed up at the 18-year-old Glacier High School student’s home at about 5 p.m., upset that his ex-girlfriend was now dating the teen, and punched him several times in the face.

A court document stated that a girl who was present during the attack also saw Rasmussen kick the teen in the head.

A deputy met the teen and his family in the emergency room of the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

The teen’s nose was broken and both his eyes were swollen completely shut. The deputy reported that the teen was covered in bloodstains and his whole face was swollen and bruised.

Despite the teen’s seemingly extensive injuries, Curry said he is expected to have no problems after healing.

“I do not believe he has any permanent injury from it,” Curry said.

Rasmussen was arrested the night of the attack and is charged with felony counts of criminal endangerment and criminal mischief.

The mischief charge stemmed from Rasmussen allegedly denting a vehicle at the teen’s home, causing roughly $2,000 in damage.

An arraignment hearing for Rasmussen is scheduled for April 11.

If convicted of both charges, Rasmussen faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, and any restitution, such as reimbursement for hospital bills. He is currently incarcerated in the Flathead County Detention Center, where his bond is set at $10,000.
