If all goes as planned, tomorrow is opening day for Coeur d'Alene's downtown Subway store. Moving from its old location on Northwest Boulevard, the new store is in 1,704 square feet of the new Plaza on Sherman in the southeast corner of Sherman Avenue at Seventh Street. A Senor Froggy's was there a few years ago. The 5,330-square-foot new building has room for two or three more occupants.

Owners are Jerry Jensen and Gary Turnidge, with Subway since 1990 and 1987, and originally from Spokane and Seattle, respectively. They own 14 stores together and four separately. They will have 12-15 employees are the new store, which will seat about 40 customers at tables and booths.

The largest fast-food chain in the world, Subway has 39,015 outlets in 101 countries. It began in 1965, and its headquarters is in Milford, Conn.

Hours at the new store are 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until midnight Fridays, 8 a.m. to midnight Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays (probably increasing in the summer). Phone 664-6636.

Hayden Country Store has May 1 plans

A combination Euro Deli, convenience store and wine shop will occupy the Hayden Country Store. Located in the northeast corner of Prairie Avenue at Fourth Street, it plans to open May 1.

The Euro Deli will have specialty sandwiches, paninis, soups, candy and European specialties. The convenience store will have grab-and-go stuff, beers, French soaps and gifts. The wine shop will offer special tastings and expertise in the field.

Owners Hans and Linda Paul, who built the building in 1990, have returned to North Idaho from Bigfork, Mont., where they had a similar business. The new store has been renovated and has new equipment and lighting.

WinCo construction planned for May

Construction is planned to begin in May on the WinCo Foods store planned for the 16-acre Crossroads development east of Ramsey Road between Appleway on the south and Marie Avenue on the north.

The 71,325-square-foot WinCo store (with a possible 24,011-square-foot expansion) will be in the northeast corner of the parcel. A potential 13 other building pads around the property will surround a parking area to hold 634 vehicles. Spies say a Chase Bank will go in the southwest corner, and gas and fast-food companies are almost signed for other spaces.

The development companies are Coldwell Banker Commercial and Hughes Investments.

Now for several Tidbits

- Potential new businesses hinted from last week: Cracker Barrel is not planned. Harbor Freight is hanging on.

- Lightning Comics & Games at 411 W. Haycraft apparently has closed.

- A new restaurant is planned for Hayden Center.

- The new Capone's opens soon in Hayden; details here next week.

- The corrected link for the Water Hazard eatery at Avondale Golf Course is www.avondalegolfcourse.com.

- A reader complained that three different employees at a local prime restaurant asked her table "How are we doing?" as though they were schooled that way.

- Several readers asked about the development in the northwest corner of Ramsey Road and Lopez Avenue. The four-acre parcel will have seven buildings with 68 apartments with private garages through Viking Homes.

- "Under way" is two words unless a nautical adjective such as "the underway vessel."

- Decafalon: Getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.
