COUNCIL: A sorry state of affairs

Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 10 months AGO

After reading the Press article about Mr. Adams’ allegations about being threatened by the mayor and City Attorney Mike Gridley, I feel compelled to state the facts as I saw them.

I saw Adams and Gridley having a conversation in the Community Room. I was standing on the stage and did not hear the conversation. I was, however, standing about two feet from the mayor in the anteroom after that conversation. Only council members were in the room.

Mr. Adams was out of control and shook his fist in the mayor’s face not two inches away, yelling at her that she needed to do something about Gridley. The mayor reacted to feeling threatened and said, “Get your finger out of my face or I will knock your nose off your face.” Mike Kennedy was trying to calm Adams down and get him out of the room. In conversation with the mayor after the altercation, she was very sorry that she had lost her temper and made that statement.

It is a sorry state of affairs in our city when such events happen. In all my years on the council I have never seen the mayor and fellow council members and staff treated with such a lack of respect as Mr. Adams shows. It should not be about a political agenda, but what is best for the citizens and the city as a whole.
