SPOKANE - Two Moses Lake drug traffickers were sentenced Wednesday to more than 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and other drug related offenses.

Isidro Madrigal-Galvinn, 20, was sentenced to more than 19 years in prison, followed by eight years of court supervision upon release. He is also prohibited from returning to the U.S. as he is not a legal citizen. He faced deportation to Mexico as a result of the convictions.

Renee Gomez, 24, was sentenced to a one-year prison term followed by six years of court supervision.

In April 2012, Madrigal-Galvan and Gomez were charged with offenses relating to the distribution and possession of methamphetamine. The offences included possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and on premises where children were present, maintaining a drug involved premise near a school and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. A jury found the two guilty on multiple counts in October.

A third member of the drug conspiracy, Martin Murillo-Barriga, was sentenced to more than 16 years in February.

At the sentence hearing, Senior U.S. District Court Judge Edward Shea noted a number of factors considered "aggravating" under federal sentencing guidelines, including that the drug trafficking conspiracy involved a home that bordered a grade school.

"Theses sentences reflect the serious consequences associated with trafficking in methamphetamine, particularly when it is conducted so close to a grade school," stated Michael C. Ormsby, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. "The law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation should be commended for their efforts in investigating this and other drug trafficking organizations."

This case was part of a larger investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and led to several search warrants and the arrest of numerous individuals, according to a press release issued by Ormsby.

The Moses Lake Police Department, Grant County Sheriff's Office and Grant County Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team assisted in the investigation with other state and federal agencies.
