KCC: Dr. Ahmad sorely missed by patient
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 11 months AGO
In September of 2012, I received a letter from KCC telling me my oncologist; Dr. Naseer Ahmad “is no longer with Kootenai Cancer Center. With his departure, your care will continue seamlessly with another medical oncologist at KCC.” I have not found this transition to be seamless. My last appointment was not very impressive. The doctor said he didn’t need to examine me since I had recently seen my G.P.; however I had never seen this doctor before. He said I didn’t need to come back for another year, but you should be seen every six months for the first five years.
It has been two.
I felt my care with Dr. Ahmad was excellent and that he explained all my options to my satisfaction. He supported me through the difficult decision involved in choosing to do chemotherapy. He was always supportive, upbeat, and professional. A bond is built with your oncology team and the doctor is the leader of that team. While the nurses and technicians are also excellent team members and are still at KCC losing my team leader, the oncologist, I believe has had a detrimental effect on my care.
I have to choose what my future path for post-cancer care will be. If I choose to go elsewhere, I will be looking into moving to Northwest Specialty Hospital’s new oncology department or to Spokane. I would certainly rather continue to see my oncologist, Dr. Ahmad if that option becomes available.
