Have you ever rolled over in bed to get comfortable and ultimately end up feeling worse when discomfort meets dizziness? Has your head started to spin with the simple task of picking up an item that you have dropped? Worse yet, have you ever felt nauseous after spending a few minutes on the swing set with your grandchild? These are all miserable but very common occurrences in everyday life as many people suffer from dizziness often diagnosed as vertigo.
There are multiple types of vertigo, but one of the most common is known as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). If you or someone you know has ever suffered from dizziness, you know the nauseating frustration brought to your life. What many people do not realize is that physical therapy is the cheapest and quickest treatment for BPPV.
"BPPV is a mechanical problem resulting from displacement of otoconia from the utricle to one of the semicircular canals (SCCs) of the inner ear." (Pt Now) By visiting a licensed physical therapist, BPPV may be diagnosed as you are placed in positions that will provoke symptoms such as involuntary eye movement. As you discuss your health history with your physical therapist they will conduct a thorough examination to determine what else may be causing your dizziness and how it may be treated. One you are diagnosed your evaluation will include a treatment plan designed to meet your goals and offer relief for your discomfort. A diagnosis of Vertigo generally requires treatments that only take a few minutes and provide a high rate of success.
