Offering audiences the chance to experience two classic pieces of literature on the same night, Wolfpack Theatre Company’s Acting 3 and Acting 4 classes will combine forces to present “The Giver” and “Romeo and Juliet” Tuesday and Wednesday in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School.

The family-friendly start time is 6:33 p.m. Run time is approximately two hours.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens, and are available at the Glacier High School main office and Photo Video Plus.

The Acting 3 class will launch this night of theater with Lois Lowry’s modern classic, “The Giver.” Adapted for the stage by Eric Coble, “The Giver” is a science-fiction adventure revealing the power of knowledge and the courage it takes to step outside the status quo to change the world.

Young Jonas lives in a utopian society where everything is the same. People do not experience pain, hunger, sickness — or memory, or choice. Everyone is equal and happy; sameness is good. Chosen for special training, Jonas is apprenticed to an old man called The Giver who is the guardian of the most sacred of life’s gifts — memory.

In his new role, Jonas is allowed to see all memories from the time before sameness. As he becomes aware of concepts like joy and pain, and the buried truth about the world around him, it becomes hauntingly clear that Jonas’ “perfect” community was built on dark secrets. In this atmosphere of discovery, Jonas is faced with challenging decisions about his society's destiny as well as his own.

“‘The Giver’ was the very first novel I ever taught when I became a teacher. I taught it to my class in Roseville, Minn., when I was student teaching,” said the show’s director and Acting 3 instructor Ivanna Fritz.

“It's a great novel with a lot of controversial issues that gives people an opportunity to think. We want to convey to the audience the idea of accepting the negative aspects of this life along with a good.”

Through this captivating adaptation, audiences discover what it means to grow up, awaken to a new reality and to take control of your own destiny.

The Acting 4 class will take to the stage to close out the evening with William Shakespeare’s most popular and well-known play, “Romeo and Juliet.”

Daring to fall in love during a dangerous time, Juliet and Romeo must hide from the blind anger and ignorance of the feuding families to which they belong. Rebelling against the demands of their families, the teenagers wed in secrecy. The repercussions of this secret union disrupt the entire city, drag friends and family into a web of misunderstanding and revengeful plots and ends in tragedy for both families.

“‘Romeo and Juliet’ is a show about how beauty can find a way to break through the dark,” said student director and senior Tanner Maroney.

“It is the quintessential antithetical play and it holds relevance today. ... We still have wars over religion, gender, race, political asocial and yes, family. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ shows us how senseless feuding truly is, and it shows us how much love can overcome and heal.”

“With a new and creative spin on the Chorus, I think the audience will be greatly moved by this new version I have adapted to fit into a one-hour format using very alternative lighting, costumes and staging,” Maroney added. “I want people to walk away from the show and contemplate how they deal with the world around them and if they are truly forgiving and tolerant. I want them to see how beauty is camouflaged between the forces of monotony and hatred.”

The cast of “The Giver” includes Keanna Blodgett, Richard Chavez, Timmy Constenius, Kyle Direito, Lukas Dregne, Kellyn Faraone, Zachary French, Annika Hanson, Sophie Joern, Tanner Maroney, Emily Moore, Connor Naïve, Raeana O’Myer, Teesa Palmatier, Cate Smith, Bryce Tomas, Kaleb Turner and Raisa Williams.

The cast of “Romeo and Juliet” includes Keanna Blodgett, Richard Chavez, Leah Cook, Jacqueline Culver, Carli Dewbre, Kyle Direito, Lukas Dregne, Connor Fraser, Riley Freeman, Zachary French, Keckeley Habel, Annika Hanson, Connor Naïve, Raeana O’Myer, Teesa Palmatier, Jaclyn Rensel, Jerry Sandler, Caitlin Smith, Bryce Tomas, Raisa Williams and Mikayla Wilson.

Behind the scenes, Raisa Williams, Spencer Gilsoul, Grant Bergman, Keanna Blodgett, Katie Christensen, Jackie Culver, Zach French, Josie Jolly, Joey O’Myer, Bryce Tomas and Mikayla Wilson make up the lights, sound and stage crew.
