The postseason is just over the horizon for the Alberton high School track team and Head Coach Rachael Clevenger and her squad are focused on taking things one week at a time.

Coach Clevenger said in the weeks leading up to districts, the team is focusing on figuring out which events competitors should enter in order to have the best shot at qualifying for the next week.

“Right now we are trying to keep everyone healthy, injury free, and focusing on the events that they have the best chance for qualifying,” Coach Clevenger said. “Our goal for districts is to qualifying 6th place or better in each of our events- that gets us to the next week, and then we practice and focus on what we have to do to qualify for the next weekend.”

Coach Clevenger added that up to this point “even with the weather,” everyone on her squad has improved since the beginning of the season.

According to Coach Clevenger, Andrew Lommen is “unofficially” leading Class C in the discus event and “has a good chance of placing in the shot put as well.”

“Keir Sanzano is doing well in all events- we are trying to pick his top five events to compete in,” Coach Clevenger said. “Delani Hanley is throwing discus well at this point, and we are trying to gain inches in her shot put. Ryan Vicek has four events, but mostly focusing on Javelin and triple jump. Todd Myrstol is battling back and hip problems, but if healthy enough he should make it in the long jump.”

Coach Clevenger said the five athletes have the “best possibility” of placing at the divisional tournament.
