Police calls: Vigilantes roaming Central Avenue

Monday, April 22

9:41 a.m. Two snowboards, two packs and a long list of other items were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Dakota Avenue.

12:08 p.m. An iPod, speakers and sunglasses were reported stolen from a vehicle on Dakota Avenue.

1:03 p.m. Managers at a store on U.S. 93 South had a shoplifter in custody.

10:03 p.m. A mountain bike was stolen on East 1st Street.

Tuesday, April 23

12:25 a.m. Vigilantes were downtown looking for a suspect in an assault that sent one man to the hospital with a broken jaw.

10:29 a.m. A vehicle on Dakota was ransacked, but nothing was missing. The perps left behind a big utility flashlight.

1:16 p.m. A man called 911 in an attempt to scare his girlfriend after she started yelling and getting in his face.

8:11 p.m. Two teenage boys were caught breaking glass in an alley off Park Avenue. The boys later apologized and picked up the glass.

8:12 p.m. A woman and her child were thrown out of a house on Dakota Avenue. The woman was allegedly damaging property.

Wednesday, April 24

12:09 a.m. A man left money on the counter of a gas station but never actually pumped any gas. He seemed confused.

7:45 p.m. A transient was seen cutting down all the bushes around the O’Shuaghnessy Center. Police investigated and found it was just an employee removing rose bushes to install a sign.

Thursday, April 25

12:36 p.m. Items were stolen from a vehicle on Baker Avenue.

4:56 p.m. A BB or tiny rock was found in the window of a home on Armory Road.

7:32 p.m. A wallet with credit cards and $400, and a full pack of clothing were reported stolen during a camping trip.

Friday, April 26

6:39 p.m. A man with a spray paint can was seen walking on East 7th Street.

7:24 p.m. Two men with dogs and backpacks were harassing people for work.

8:29 p.m. A woman reportedly threatened another woman’s 8-year-old child at school.

8:54 p.m. Two men with dogs were harassing a woman riding her bike on Central Avenue.

9:42 p.m. Six horses were running down Edgewood Place toward Wisconsin Avenue.

Saturday, April 27

5:19 a.m. A homeless man was found sleeping near an ice machine at a hotel on U.S. 93 South.

11:50 a.m. Someone stole a sign from the 2nd Street bridge.

9:13 p.m. A group of children on Voerman Road were scared by a man driving a beat up pickup. The driver pulled over and blew smoke in their face then drove away. He also flipped off the children.

10:29 p.m. Police counseled a group of belligerent people at the ice rink.

Sunday, April 28

1 a.m. A man wearing a beanie and another man in a pink shirt were harassing and annoying people at a bar on Central Avenue. They told police there were headed out of town.

1:48 a.m. Two transients with two dogs were threatening customers at a business on U.S. 93 South.

7 a.m. A transient was sleeping in front of the VFW. Police told him to move along.

8:16 a.m. Transients were seen sleeping under trees near the river.

1:24 p.m. A man with a backpack was asking customers at McDonalds to go have a beer with him.

3:49 p.m. Someone threw a rock at a window on Baker Avenue.

Rehberg to attend rally for Jesus statue

Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg will attend a public rally in Whitefish on Nov. 10 in support of the World War II statue of Jesus on Big Mountain. Rehberg will be at the VFW Post 276 on Baker Avenue at 1 p.m.

Flathead Sled Dog Days is gearing up for its fifth annual dog sled race Jan. 6-8. Race organizers have partnered with the Whitefish Winter Carnival to become part of their festivities next month.
