WHITEFISH — The Polson and Whitefish tennis teams split a Northwestern A conference dual on Thursday, winning in completely different fashions.

The Pirate boys swept Whitefish, dropping just one set in the meet. Polson was dominant in singles, with all four boys winning in straight sets, losing only 10 points combined.

“I think this match got my players’ attention,” Whitefish boys coach Chris Schwaderer said.

“Polson has a really solid team. They are well-coached and know what they need to do as divisionals approach.”

The Whitefish girls beat the Pirates 5-2, coming back from first set losses in four different matches to earn the victory.

The Bulldogs’ Sloan Ellis recovered from a tie break loss in the first set against Shannon Oakley to win No. 2 singles 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-5.

Teammate Anna Peterson lost 6-1 in her first set against Peyton Anderson, but won the final two sets 6-2, 1-0 (12-10).

“It shows a lot of determination,” Whitefish girls coach Patrick Dryden said. “I’m pleased with the way we battled today.”

Each team will be back on the courts for duals on Saturday. Polson hosts Columbia Falls and Stevensville in a triangular. Whitefish will play at Bigfork.
