RATHDRUM — Junior Trysta Kelley earned praise for her varsity debut as a pitcher, but the visiting Blackhawks emerged with the nonleague victory.
Kristin Klopatek, who had pitched every inning for Lakeland this season, came down with back spasms prior to the game. Kelley came on in the first inning with the bases loaded, nobody out and Cheney leading 3-0. She got out of that jam, and pitched the rest of the way.
“I was really proud of my JV pitcher for coming in and doing her job,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. “We just need to get our bats on the ball more, and clean up the errors behind her.”
Lakeland (11-8) plays host to Moscow today at 3 p.m. in a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader. Lakeland has already wrapped up the league title.
