The future for Post Falls High sophomore Kelcie Hedge appears to be in soccer.

Earlier this week, she verbally committed to the University of Washington women's soccer team to go along with being selected to attend the U.S. under-15 national team training camp starting today in Dallas.

"It's a great honor," Hedge said. "Everything I've worked for has come true and now I’ve got to go prove myself.”

Hedge is one of 12 forwards selected to the team, which is holding camp on the campus at Southern Methodist University. It is the second of four camps scheduled this year for the team.

Hedge was named the 2012 Gatorade Idaho girls soccer Player of the Year, becoming the first player from Post Falls to receive the honor, with 18 goals and 12 assists to lead the Trojans (13-7) to the state 5A championship game and was the state’s Offensive Player of the Year and is a two-time first team all-state selection.

She now has 42 goals in two years.

Washington is recruiting Hedge — who plays club soccer with the Spokane Shadow and Washington Premier of Seattle — to play an attacking midfielder.

“It’s a great school,” Hedge said. “When I went there on my visit, I really liked the school and it felt like home to me. I really like the academic side of things and it’s really close to home.”

Stanford, UCLA and Gonzaga were also recruiting Hedge, who can’t officially sign a letter of intent until the fall of 2014.
