PREP ROUNDUP: Willmon, Stangel team for 7 HRs

* SOFTBALL

COEUR d'ALENE - Lindsey Willmon hit three home runs in the first game and Casey Stangel added two, including a grand slam in the second inning, and the Lake City Timberwolves went on to sweep the Post Falls Trojans 19-1 and 16-0 in the "Save 2nd Base" games for breast cancer awareness Friday at Lake City.

Stangel, Willmon and Hailey Jackson all homered in the second game for Lake City (22-0, 12-0 5A Inland Empire League) against Post Falls (3-19, 0-12).

Stangel was 3 for 3 with six RBIs in the opener, and Willmon was 3 for 3 with five RBIs. Vanessa Shippy and JaeCie Wilson each went 3 for 3 with three runs scored in the second game, and Stangel and Jackson each knocked in four runs.

The 5A Region 1 tournament begins Tuesday. No. 1 seed Lake City plays host to No. 4 seed Post Falls at 2 p.m., and No. 2 Coeur d'Alene plays No. 3 Lewiston at 2 at Finucane Park in Hayden.

At 4 p.m., those winners play at Lake City for the regional title and a berth to state May 17-18 at Ramsey Park in Coeur d'Alene, while the losers play at Finucane in a loser-out game.

RATHDRUM - Bekah Kastning drove in three runs on the day for the Hawks, who swept the Bears in a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader to finish 8-0 in league play.

In the first game, Kari Prockish had three hits for Lakeland (13-8), which opens the 4A Region 1 tournament against the winner of the Sandpoint-Moscow game on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Lakeland High.

Lakeland was without No. 1 pitcher Kristin Klopatek for the second straight day due to back spasms.

"It was a great job by our kids without our starting pitcher and playing behind our JV pitcher (Trysta Kelley) to get the win," Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. Moscow is 3-16, 1-7.

MOSCOW - The Trojans swept the girls singles and mixed doubles to tie the Bears at Moscow High.

"The girls singles played really well," said second-year Post Falls coach Kirk Hartzell. "It's the first time since I've been coaching we've swept (girls singles in) a varsity match. The mixed doubles did what we thought they'd do and we were able to."

Post Falls is off until the 5A Region 1 tournament next Friday and Saturday at Lake City High.
