Scholars present research Friday at community college

 Approximately 100 students from Flathead Valley Community College, The University of Montana and Whitefish High School will present their research projects Friday during the college’s fourth annual Scholars Conference on Student Research.  

Students will present their research, portfolios and projects to college faculty, staff and students and members of the community.

Around 20 student presentations will be delivered and nearly 80 research posters will be showcased.  

Project topics will range widely in biology, natural resources, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, history, psychology, anthropology, nursing, business and computer science.

The event in the Arts and Technology Building on the FVCC campus is open to the public. 

Presentations will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. and will take place every half hour inside classrooms on the upper level of the building.  

The research poster exhibitions will be inside the large community meeting room from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.   

The kickoff for the Scholars Conference will be at 12:15 p.m. in the community meeting room featuring James McKusick, dean of the Davidson Honors College at The University of Montana;  Tommy Donovan, assistant director of the University Honors Program at Montana State University;  Ivan Lorentzen, director of The Scholars Program at FVCC; and scholar students Tyler Rasmussen, Seth Donahue, and JonAlan Osborne.

The event will conclude with a ceremony and reception at 5:30 p.m. in the large community meeting room.

Climate change awards announced

Climate Smart Glacier Country announced its Climate Smart Champions during a ceremony at the Earth Day celebration April 21 in Whitefish. Awards were presented to businesses, youth and an individual who are leaders in building local solutions to climate change challenges.
