OTHELLO - Five Othello residents, including two children, were injured Friday afternoon in a rear-end collision on state Route 26 near town.
About 1:30 p.m., Ignacio Ramos-Garcia, 33, of Othello, was stopped in a 2003 Honda Pilot SUV on state Route 26 facing west, waiting to turn left onto Moon Road about a half mile west of Othello. According to the state patrol, the driver of a 2001 Ford Focus allegedly failed to stop for the Honda and struck the vehicle in the rear. The driver of the Ford Focus, Jose A. Arreola, 31, of Othello, was injured and transported to Othello Community Hospital. The two vehicles were reported totaled.
Two passengers in the Ford, Selicity Hernandez and Frida Arreola, both 8, were also injured and transported to the hospital. Both children were passengers with Arreola.
The two children were reportedly not restrained in the vehicle at the time of the collision, according to the state patrol.
Ramos-Garcia, as well as a passenger in his vehicle, Violeta Ramos, 35, of Othello, were injured and taken to the hospital.
Both drivers and Violeta Ramos were wearing seat belts.
