Legion baseball: Twins hit past Lakers, 13-3
The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 12 years, 7 months AGO
The Glacier Twins played small ball and took advantage of a run of Kalispell errors, beating the Lakers 13-3 in a nonconference game on Tuesday at Griffin Field.
The Class A Twins scored five runs with two outs in the second inning to mount a seven-run lead on the Class AA Lakers and run away with the win.
“Our boys came to play baseball today,” Glacier coach Bobb Rupp said. “That’s how it is when you play Kalispell. If you don’t play your game you’re gonna get beat.”
Glacier scored runs in every inning, starting with a two-run first. That would be all they needed with pitching that kept the Lakers off balance and held the bigger club to only three runs and six hits.
Colton Gove went 3 for 4 from the plate with a triple and three RBIs for the Twins. Glacier racked up 13 hits in the game and had five players pick up multiple hits.
“We came out and played very good,” Rupp said. “That’s what we do, play small ball. We found out today that’s what happens when you do that stuff. We put some runs on the scoreboard.”
Kalispell struggled with runners in scoring position, leaving 12 guys stranded in five innings. The Lakers left the bases loaded three separate times.
“We didn’t do a good job of competing,” Kalispell coach Ryan Malmin said. “It’s a wake-up call for us. Now we know what we need to do to prepare better.”
Chris Combs went 2 for 3 to lead the Lakers at the plate. Kalispell (4-4) heads to Polson on Saturday for a nonconference game against Mission Valley and plays its first conference game on Sunday in Helena.
Glacier heads north to play a nonconference series against Calgary on Saturday and Sunday.
