Tomorrow, track athletes from across Mineral County will compete in Polson at the District Tournament and two St. Regis Tigers will be doing so after not only winning their respective events at last weeks tournament in Seeley-Swan, but breaking the school record for those events as well.

Junior Arianna Jones and sophomore Gabby Moeller each broke a St. Regis school record last week at a tournament in Seeley-Swan – Jones with a 119 feet 3 inch javelin throw and Moeller with a 5 foot 3 inch high jump.

“I like the technical part of the high jump the best,” Moeller said. “You have to be physical and fit to do it, but it’s more technical than anything.”

Jones echoed Moeller and said the technical aspect of the javelin throw is her favorite part of the event.

“I prepare for the javelin by just thinking about my throw,” Jones said. “I try not to scare myself too much and just warm myself up. You kind of have to set your mind to the goal you are looking for”

Moeller said she tends to over think the event and on Saturday at the tournament tried to go into the high jump with a clear head.

“I tried not to think about it and just went and jumped,” Moeller said. “I know that I am capable of doing it and the less I think about it the better I do.”

Both Jones and Moeller are looking forward to the challenge that the district tournament holds, while being excited about riding the momentum from breaking the school record just a week prior to the meet.

“I think it (breaking the school record) will help push us through districts and into divisionals,” Moeller said.

“It will be nice to have that distance going into districts and state,” Jones added.
