TWIN FALLS - Heather Bishop went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Shelby Carter hit a solo home run in the third inning as the fifth-seeded North Idaho Cardinals beat the fourth-seeded Snow Badgers 3-1 in the opening game of the Region 18 tournament on Wednesday at the College of Southern Idaho.

NIC (23-33) will face top-seeded Southern Idaho (47-9) today at 11 a.m. PDT in the semifinals.

During the season, Snow (23-26) had won four of five meetings - with two being postponed by snow and another matchup in Coeur d'Alene called due to rain.

Emily Perlich struck out five over seven innings and Amber Meyers drove in the Cardinals' other run on an RBI single in the first inning.

In other action, second-seeded Salt Lake (45-9) beat seventh-seed Colorado Northwestern (5-49) 5-2 and third-seeded Southern Nevada (34-25) defeated sixth-seed Western Nevada (18-42) 7-1.

Following play on Wednesday, Perlich was named to the All-Region 18 first team and teammates Kelsey LaVaute and Carter were named to the second team.
