SCHOOLS: Hazel kids' champion

I support Christa Hazel for School Board Trustee… not because she’s a Republican, a conservative, or even because she has kids in the district. It’s because she knows what is happening in our district and is dedicated to ensuring a bright future for our children. She attends almost every school board meeting, served on Long Range Planning for four years, served as chair of that committee, assisted in the drafting of the present model used for this district’s Ten Year Plan, and spends countless hours volunteering in various capacities for our district. She is a person who takes action on issues related to our district after seeking and considering input from all sides. She operates in a non-partisan manner, and that is how all school board trustees should be operating, though that is not the case with the current board.

I am very concerned about the implementation of the new Common Core standards this fall. I hear current board members, including Christa’s opponent, expressing their criticisms about these standards, but Christa is the only one I hear wanting to make sure our district is PREPARED to implement the new standards. It’s a done deal…the standards must be implemented. Those with problems with the standards should take their concerns to the State. Christa recognizes that the board’s role is to provide our children the needed support and remediation so they can be successful in this new rigorous curriculum. She wants to make sure teachers are prepared and receive the proper support to implement the standards in their classrooms. Christa’s opponent seems more concerned about the myths about Common Core than he is about supporting children and teachers.

If you want positive change, vote for Christa Hazel. She has what it takes to help our students and teachers thrive.
