State high school golf tournaments at a glance

All tourneys Monday and Tuesday

5A

At Lewiston Country Club

Local qualifiers: Coeur d'Alene boys; Lake City girls; Post Falls boys and girls

Eagle is defending boys champion, with Coeur d’Alene finishing second. The two teams could duel again for the title. Coeur d’Alene protested Eagle’s victory last year, saying an Eagle player should have been disqualified for using a range finder during the second round. Instead, he was penalized two strokes, allowed to finish his round, and Eagle went on to win by eight strokes. Had he been DQ’d, Coeur d’Alene would have won by one.

Lewiston is defending girls champion and won the Region 1 title last week, also at Lewiston Country Club.

Eagle junior Chris Carew was last year’s boys medalist and Amy Hasenoehrl, who was the Region 1 tournament girls medalist last week in Lewiston, returns after winning 5A medalist last year.

"We know that we left some strokes on the course last week (at regionals)," Coeur d'Alene coach Bryan Duncan said. "All we can do is move on and continue to work hard. We're looking forward to getting back to state. It's a great course."

4A

At University of Idaho Golf Course, Moscow

Local qualifiers: Lakeland boys, Lakeland girls

Lakeland junior Derek Bayley is defending boys medalist, winning in a three-man playoff last year in Blackfoot.

Twin Falls won the boys team title last year, and Bishop Kelly won the girls team title.

3A

At The Highlands Golf Course, Post Falls

Local qualifiers: Dylan VanWingerden, Timberlake; Kellogg boys and girls

Marsh Valley won the boys title last year. Weiser won the girls by four strokes over Kellogg, which won the District 1 tournament at The Highlands last week.

Kellogg senior Kaceelyn Pouttu, who has signed with Weber State, has won the last three state girls medalist titles.

2A

At Circling Raven Golf Course, Worley

Local qualifiers: St. Maries boys, girls; Wallace boys; Sierra Shamburg, Lakeside

Castleford won the boys championship and Declo the girls title last year.

Tristen Coles of Ririe returns to defend his boys medalist title.
