State high school golf tournaments at a glance
All tourneys Monday and Tuesday
5A
At Lewiston Country Club
Local qualifiers: Coeur d'Alene boys; Lake City girls; Post Falls boys and girls
Eagle is defending boys champion, with Coeur d’Alene finishing second. The two teams could duel again for the title. Coeur d’Alene protested Eagle’s victory last year, saying an Eagle player should have been disqualified for using a range finder during the second round. Instead, he was penalized two strokes, allowed to finish his round, and Eagle went on to win by eight strokes. Had he been DQ’d, Coeur d’Alene would have won by one.
Lewiston is defending girls champion and won the Region 1 title last week, also at Lewiston Country Club.
Eagle junior Chris Carew was last year’s boys medalist and Amy Hasenoehrl, who was the Region 1 tournament girls medalist last week in Lewiston, returns after winning 5A medalist last year.
"We know that we left some strokes on the course last week (at regionals)," Coeur d'Alene coach Bryan Duncan said. "All we can do is move on and continue to work hard. We're looking forward to getting back to state. It's a great course."
