Historical society

The Columbia Falls Historical Society will meet in the Chapel Building at the Montana Veterans Home on Tuesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in local history is invited to attend.

Rummage sale

The women’s group of Canyon Community Church will hold a “Ladies Night Out” rummage sale at the Canyon Community Church, 185 Coram School Lane, in Coram, on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to raise funds for the Baby Quilt Ministry which donates personalized handmade quilts for all new-born babies throughout the Canyon. Food and beverage will be available for purchase along with homemade pies.

Airport after hours

Glacier Park International Airport will host a business after-hours social for the Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and other valley chambers on Thursday, May 16, from 5-7 p.m. at the main terminal.

Whole living

The free Whole Living Community Workshop vegetarian cooking school will continue on Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m. at the Seventh–day Adventist Church, 269 Second Avenue East North, in Columbia Falls. This month’s classes will include “Why Eat Raw Food?” on May 21.

Belton after hours

The Belton Chalet in West Glacier will host the Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce’s business after-hours social on Thursday, May 30, from 5-7 p.m. There will be dining discounts that night.

Board opening

A seat is open on the Columbia Falls Cemetery Board serving through Dec. 31, 2014. Anyone residing in the Columbia Falls Cemetery District interested in serving on the board can mail a letter of interest with qualifications to Flathead County Commissioners Office, 800 South Main, Room 302, Kalispell MT 59901-5420. Letters should be received by June 11. For more information, call 758-5537.

Visitor center

The Columbia Falls Visitor Center at Marantette Park will open for the 2013 tourist season on Friday, May 24. The center will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sept. 3. Area tourist businesses can drop off their brochures there.

Motorcycle show

The second annual S.M.E.G. Motorcycle Show will take place at the Flathead County Fairgrounds Expo Building on Saturday, June 1, from noon to 7 p.m. with custom motorcycles, classic bikes, brand new models, a swap meet, a riding apparel fashion show, live music, a bike rodeo, brews and a barbecue. Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
