CDA: No need for super search
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 7 months AGO
So Mrs. Bauman is leaving Coeur d’Alene to take a position with the Kitsap School District and Matt Handelman has been offered the interim superintendent position beginning July 1.
He is very qualified to serve having been the assistant superintendent since 2010, and elementary director and curriculum director for the district as well as nine years experience with Spokane schools.
So why not just offer him Bauman’s job as the new superintendent? Why waste time and money searching for someone out of the area? They often end up not being as qualified and familiar with our schools as the personnel we already have. Like Bauman, they often leave before their contract expires.
Wouldn’t it be more efficient and a morale boaster to have a current qualified employee move up to this position? The money saved could be put to better use — teacher bonuses, new books, student activities, etc.
