The Lynch Creek Nursery played host to the annual Mothers Day event where kids could plant flowers, learn about gardening and present their hard work to deserving mothers.

Owner Della Garrison said about 60 kids showed up to plant flowers over the two day event. Garrison said the nursery has been hosting the occasion for about 14 years.

“It went very well. We had a lot of kids and it was a very nice day,” said Garrison.

Children were afforded the opportunity to plant a variety of annuals including pansies, snapdragons, petunias and marigolds. The nursery offered cake and lemonade as refreshments after the kids brought their plants to their mothers.

Garrison said besides being a nice way to honor mothers on a day set aside for them, teaching kids about plants is a way to foster an appreciation of gardening in young people.

“We try to teach them about the plants. It’s a nice thing to learn. Kids love gardening once they start to learn about it,” said Garrison.

Garrison remarked that the day was a huge success and was a great way to celebrate Mothers Day.

“We had a really nice turnout. It’s a great way to encourage the kids to get into gardening and a nice way to honor the mothers,” said Garrison.
