HOT SPRINGS - The Savage Heat track and field team put on a solid performance at the 14C District meet in Polson on May 9.

The boys team came in second place with a score of 132 and the girls team came in fourth place with a score of 42.

The Heat boys team was led by the efforts of Anthony Byrns, Wyatt Nagy, Zahara Pavol, Nate Gray, Tanner Hoff, Dave Cross and Jack Dolson.

In sprint and hurdle events, Byrns took second in the 100-meter race with a time of 12.25 seconds and won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.62.

Wyatt Nagy took third in the 400-meter with a time 53.63 while Pavol placed second in the 800-meter with a time of 2:09.28.

In distance events, Gray took third in the 3200-meter race with a time of 11:41.77.

In hurdles, Tanner Hoff placed fourth with a time of 18.21 in the 110-meter race. Wyatt Nagy took second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.12.

The Savage Heat relay teams had a strong showing taking second place in both the 4X100 and 4X400 races.

In throwing events, Dave Cross threw the discus 120 feet 2 inches placing second and heaved the shot put 44 feet even to take first place.

In jumping events, Jack Dolson took second place in the high jump leaping 5 feet 6 inches into the air.

Jarod White placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet 5.5 inches and also took fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 39 feet 2.75 inches

For the girls team, Amanda Woods took fourth place in the 1600-meter race with a time of 6:22.00 and Meara Schmiedbauer threw the javelin 110 feet 2 inches to place second.

For the boys teams, Charlo won the district meet with a score of 199. Noxon took third place overall with a score of 76 followed by Arlee coming in with 66 points.

Superior placed fifth with a score of 32 while St. Regis scored 18 points.

For the girls teams, Charlo won the meet scoring 148 followed by Superior in second with a score 142. Arlee finished third scoring 117 with Hot Springs taking fourth place with a score 42.

St. Regis finished with 37 points while Noxon scored 30 points.

Coach Vicki Nytes said she was impressed with the overall performance of the team.

“Our athletes are advancing in almost every event. They have been working very hard and we are looking forward to a really good meet this weekend,” said Nytes.

The Savage Heat will next compete in the divisional meet in Missoula on May 17 through 18.
