“The Lion in Winter” by James Goldman is a witty historical drama depicting the family of King Henry II in 1183. As the sun sets on his reign, Henry II calls his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and their three sons to the palace in Chinon, France, for the negotiation of a treaty and a marriage contract.
Known for their discordant relationship fueled by anger and old wounds, the king and queen battle to determine which of their three sons will succeed to the throne while the crown-hungry sons battle, not only for the position of “successor to the throne,” but also for parental affection.
This timeless drama of domestic turmoil and competing ambitions still resonates with relevance today. Their battle is marked by treachery, scandal and sharp dialogue that cuts deeper than a knife.
“I chose this play for its sharp, intelligent and darkly witty dialogue,” director Marcy Maroney said. “It perfectly showcases this experienced and incredibly talented cast.”
The cast of “The Lion in Winter” includes Tanner Maroney, Keckeley Habel, Annika Hanson, Zach French, Lukas Dregne, Bryce Tomas, Aaron Robinson, Ben Habel, Jackie Culver and Angela Merrill.
The technical crew, including MaKenna Siebenaler, Rebecca Ames, Alexa Lamers, Anika Fritz, Keanna Blodgett, Jaclyn Rensel, Rachel Bjork, Nathan MacGregor, Derek Miller, Spencer Gilsoul, Joey O’Myer and Josh Pitt, support the cast behind the scenes.
