DOG: Maybe more to story
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 7 months AGO
In reference to the article “Pit bull attacks, injures boy,” while I certainly sympathize with Charlie and his father, Nathan, concerning the “attack,” I would like to question some of Nathan’s statements. He estimated that the bite wounds are up to five inches deep. Now, unless that was some kind of prehistoric saber tooth pit bull, I know for a fact that pit bulls do not have five inch incisors. No dog does.
It sounds like the owner was being responsible in keeping his dog under control and in close proximity to him, so why was Charlie allowed by his father to ride so close to the dog? I could see through the dog’s eyes Charlie and his bike being a threat to his owner and he acted out of self-defense. Six-year-olds are far from steady on their bikes.
Now I realize we’re only hearing one side of the story and if this pit bull has a history of aggressive behavior, then certainly euthanasia is warranted, but if this is the dog’s first offense, it should be judged by an animal behaviorist before being put down.
